Information about the renovation process and the status of the church
The joint information of the Mayor’s Office and Trust for the Baroque Church of Szentgotthárd was passed off in the presence of remarkable number of enquirers. Between the audience lines we could found Zsolt Németh, a Member of Parliament of our region. Number of persons expressed their regret that despite several requests and call there has been no media representation.
Gyula Kukor, secular president of the parish, welcomed the participants on behalf of the Trust then the short film about the values of the church, emphasizing the horrible estate of the roof, was presented.
Tibor Viniczay, Mayor of Szentgotthárd introduced the steps which has taken place in the last years to rescue the ancient monuments, especially the baroque church. Likewise other lecturers, he emphasized the efforts which have happened already and of course he asked for further support.
József Takács senior engineer, one of the leaders of the reconstruction, presented the plans in virtue of the church would be renovated. In the first phase, in the beginning of October works on the roof has started. As far as 80 stere debris, which has aggregated in the past few years, was eliminated from the attic. Static strutting, change part of the timbers and stabilize it with bar iron is the task for the next weeks. Complete battening and replacement of tiles follow this task. Restoration of drainpipe and lightning rod. Accomplishment of this schedule – implementation by ÉPSZÖV, Szombathely – is expected by the middle of April, valued as far as 50 million forint. The preparation of planned tasks and quest for tender facilities is continuing. Spectacular development can be expected subject to this and private supports.
Mrs. Tibor Pénzes, accountant of the Trust, has reported about the financial situation. She emphasized the huge number of generous supporters with several foreigners amongst them. List of supporters can be found constantly on the notice board of the church, on teletext pages of City Television and on the website of the parish.
At the end of the meeting Zsolt Németh Member of Parliament demanded the floor. He said that he tried to call politician’s and public opinion’s attention to save one of the most beautiful baroque churches. He hopes that they can get a European Union tender money which brings into effect the plans.
